About O.M.I.A.H. Travelog and Tips

Greetings! My name is Scott Richards and I welcome you to O.M.I.A.H Travelog and Tips.  For those truly curious, the acronym is for
the “Old Man In A Hat”…and that’s me!

Yes, I am starting this blog out of the blue, and if you are looking for tips and ideas for travel, well, you’ve come to a place…can’t guarantee it’s the right one for you, but I promise you won’t be worse the wear for stopping by. I also can commit the following…I will:

  • Try to post frequently.
  • Be as open with my recommendations/opinions (destinations, restaurants, etc).
  • Share planning, travel and other tips that I think are helpful (regrettably, opinions may vary)
  • Share pictures and video of my travels…minimizing my presence as the destination is the eye-candy.
  • Answer questions, if I can be of help.  I do reserve the right to ignore inappropriate questions (snarkiness is permitted).
  • Try as minimally as possible to reign in my sense of humor and sarcasm…my gift to you.

To explain me a bit more, I am in my mid-50’s with an undergrad in Civil Engineering and an MBA (Hail to Pitt!). I did serve as a linguist in the Army for 14 years between active and reserves. In the realm of “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it” my specialty was Korean, but that has gone by the wayside. Luckily, I have had the opportunity to reengage on my German, and I can proudly say it is absolutely mediocre.

As it pertains to my globetrotting, I’ve done my share of travel between the business world and family trips. I had my first trip to Germany, waaaaay back in 1983 when the wall still stood, we had to declare East from West, and the Deutsch Mark was still the currency du jour. Besides having German heritage running through my family tree, this trip really set the tone for my affinity for the country and travel.

Now, some people hate the idea, but I view planning for a trip to be as much fun as the trip itself. Sometimes to the chagrin of my family, I do a lot of research ahead of time on where we are going. It does payoff in the end, and I will share. I’m also a bit of a spreadsheet jockey, so I’ll also be talking a bit about numbers. ‘cuz in the end, the bill come due!

That said, if you are looking for advice on how to do Europe on a dollar a day, I wish you luck, but that’s not my thing. However, if you are looking for travel ideas and tips that can be done to make the most of a trip on a reasonable budget, but include some occasional splurges on your journey, I might be able to give you some food for thought.

While I may target a lot of my content to folks approaching, or past, the AARP line and are entering the next stage of their life, be it becoming an empty nester or retiring who have decided to travel more, but never have, I hope that anyone who visits my site gets something positive out of it.

I hope you enjoy what I put together on O.M.I.A.H. Travelog and Tips and come back from time to time.

O.M.I.A.H.
